I would love to exit the Mac/Apple ecosystem. But I haven’t found anything else reliable. It is a catch-22: use an overly expensive, bloated software and hardware monopoly that gets worse with every iteration, or go to an unsupported Linux ecosystem which doesn’t have robust enough hardware (and software that doesn’t interface with the walled fortresses of Microsoft and other monopolists that universities and other institutions have been sold on).

Let’s take the example of “Spotlight,” Mac’s signature search app. While it used to work well, finding files on my computer, it now fails to access even obvious files, that I know I have.

Instead of making these things better, Mac’s OS updates are obsessed with Emoji. Because that’s really what’s important and what people need. “Electrolytes are what plants crave” (referencing Idiocracy).

macOS Sonoma 14.4 introduces new emoji as well as other features, bug fixes and security updates for your Mac.
